Project Funding
The key factor to securing funding for the Chesaning Dam Removal project was demonstrating the support and investment
on behalf of the community to get the job done. The Village proactively funded the planning and design of the project,
which yielded illustrative graphics and reports that were able to provide compelling visuals of what the final product
would look like. These illustrations were persuasive tools in developing support from funding agencies and the community
at large.
Once planning and design was complete, the Village developed a campaign to raise support through donations of money and
materials. An innovative approach included an "Ugly Rock Contest" to encourage members of the community to donate boulders
and rocks to be used in the construction of the natural rock ramp. The collective efforts of Village leaders and residents
resulted in rock and boulder donations that totaled more than $346,000 in value. This amount was applied as a local match to
acquire funding from grant agencies. A complete breakdown of funding for the Chesaning Dam project is provided below:
